On the 21-23 of March the  Nga Huiarau syndicate went on camp to Totara Springs. We drove down with Matilda, Ryleah, Troy, Dad and Me to Matamata and then got lost so we grabbed out the GPS and that took us to Totara Springs. When we got there we all meet a man called mok, he told us the rules on camp and one of them was TO NOT USE SPARY ON DEODARANTE IN THE CABINS OR THE FIRE ALARM WILL GO OFF! Time went by and it was afternoon tea, we had bits of Home Baking ” Yum Yum” as i crunched the biscuit. We soon got put into our cabin groups Georgia, Trinity, Sophie T, Lilly, Holly, Shayla and I were in my cabin we had 2 adults Jenny and Wendy. We got our gear in the cabins and choose were we wanted to sleep. After that we had our first  activity we walked down the rough road  to our activity it was Team Rescue, mok timed you and you had to work as a team to get to roy. We had dinner pork stew and  and jelly and fruit for dessert ( that was yummy!) Soon after we went to bed ( snooze snooze snooze ) we all went to sleep.

In the bright sunny morning we got dressed for  breakfast, i was so excited because we were going on the Hydro Slide first I got my togs on and run as fast as i could  to get there first ( it was bolling on the Hydro Slide!) After that we went on the Canadian Slide which went into the freezing, icy  river (with eels!) It was fun when i did it because took my Feer’s away. My favorite activity was the Flying Kiwi which is when you have a Harness on and had 4 children and 2 adults pulling you up in the air like a flying kiwi and the Go Karts. I had so much fun at Totara Springs it was the best camp ever, i would love to go back.

Camp was in week 8, and the whole of Nga Huirau ( the leaves ) enjoyed it! We went to the Hamilton Muesuem monsters exhibition. Some of us got to be a monster, which was actually just made out of bits of cheap junk someone had managed to get hold of ( probably from the dump ) and made it into a monster. It had a head which had a jaw action and the neck was made of drain pipes. It had lights which made the eyes and the neck light up. Its body was made of black tarp. When the people in the monster first appereared there were screams from people. The monsters show was all about the anaimatronics of monsters and creatures from movies, TV shows, advertisements and other things. There was a TV advertisement about a certain brand of phones, showing a polar bear give a phone to the abdominable snowman. The call turned out to be his mother calling him from the South pole. His mother was living in the South pole and he was living in the North pole. There was many other things to look at as well including 2 or 3 dinosaurs which you could control and move some of thier body parts.

Last week, a lady named Christine Bowering came in to talk to the school and said ”I am going to Antarctica”. She said she was going for a month. She is going to five places on the way: The Snares, The Auckland Islands, Macquarie Island, Campbell Island and the Ross Sea. Christine is going to see what it’s like and tell others about it to help the environment and to save the animals.

In term 3 Te maramas inquiry was tourism and each child had to pick a topic of tourism or a tourist attraction. some children completed their inquiry by visiting and designing a  model or a poster displaying information about their research. here are some pictures.

On Friday the RWC opened in a spectacular display of traditional maori performances and songs. Some of kids were lucky enough to be live in the stadium. The ceremony started with a long waiata followed by a loud haka. Then some wind carts came out with people dancing around them. Later they made the formation of two hammer head sharks facing each other. Finally the game started, the A ll Blacks dominated the game right to the end with Tonga only scoring one try. Over all it was a brilliant way to welcome the world to NZ.

The Fijians

On friday the 2nd of semptember we all got a big surprise because the Fijin rugby world cup team were going to vist our school.  When they arrived the whole school stared to sing the song ohope,e all of them looked strong and bold and hard to tackle but they wouldnt stand a chance againts the all blacks. All the team sighned autographs on t-shirts, flags and tiles after that Fiji sang a really cool song to us as soon as that fineshed the kapa haka boys went up to do there haka to them the Fijins looked impreesd but as soon as that finished the whole school had to say goodbye and good luck in the rugby world cup.
